Visit of a delegation from the European Court of Human Rights to the Federal Constitutional Court

On 1 July 2019, the President of the Federal Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Andreas Voßkuhle, the Vice-President of the Federal Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Stephan Harbarth, LL.M., and other members of the Court welcomed a delegation from the European Court of Human Rights, headed by its President, Prof. Dr. Linos-Alexander Sicilianos.

The working sessions addressed topics including the protection of fundamental rights in relation to private actors, data protection in the cooperation of European constitutional courts, as well as the question whether “red lines” are a necessary tool or a dangerous self-commitment in fundamental rights jurisprudence. In addition, the visit of the delegation served to discuss current focuses of the courts’ work.
