Measures to maintain the proper functioning of the Federal Constitutional Court

Press Release No. 97/2020 of 04 November 2020

The Federal Constitutional Court remains fully functional in spite of various restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus. As a precaution against potential cases of infection or quarantine, the Court returns to an alternating two-shift system from 4 November 2020 onwards that ensures the continued functioning of the Court. Additionally, external contact and the presence of staff at the Court remain restricted to a minimum. The Court has also cancelled all trips to and visits from foreign courts. The Federal Constitutional Court has been closed to visitor groups since March 2020 and remains closed to the public. The Court will continue to handle cases. In particular, the Chambers will continue to decide on applications for preliminary injunctions. The IT equipment available allows the Justices to work from home. The Court’s Press Office is still available for enquiries. However, it should be expected that the handling of media enquiries will be restricted in scope and may be subject to delay.
