Federal Constitutional Court to participate in Berlin festivities to mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law

Press Release No. 46/2024 of 22 May 2024

The Basic Law is turning 75 on 23 May 2024. We would like to celebrate this anniversary together with you in Berlin.

The festivities start at 10 a.m. with an ecumenical service in the St. Marienkirche. At midday, a state ceremony, with about 1100 guests expected to attend, will be held in the forum in front of the Federal Chancellery. After a musical opening, Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier will address the audience with a speech.

A Festival of Democracy will take place around the Chancellery and the Paul Löbe Building of the German Bundestag from 24 to 26 May 2024. The Federal Constitutional Court will showcase its activities in an interactive pavilion directly next to the Tipi am Kanzleramt theatre. In the pavilion, citizens can gain insights into the operations of the Federal Constitutional Court and, through interviews, a personal impression of Justices of the Federal Constitutional Court on Friday 24 May 2024 (from 2 p.m.), Saturday 25 May and Sunday 26 May (from 11 a.m. on both days). Moreover, short videos about the work and important decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court, such as the recently produced video series ‘My fundamental rights’, will be shown on large screens.

The Federal Constitutional Court warmly invites you to join the festivities and looks forward to your visit.
